Freight traffic can pose challenges to maintaining attractive, walkable communities. The twin objectives of efficient goods movement and livable communities present conflicting priorities to transportation planners and roadway designers as to how best to design roadways.
The Freight Roadway Design Considerations are intended to help in balancing these priorities by providing guidance on how to design for both trucks and other transportation modes while considering the land use context in which they operate to create a more livable environment.
